Founded under the name of Univeritas Lovaniensis, that was closed in 1797 during Napoleonic period. It was ``re-founded`` in 1834. In 1968 there was a split into Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and Université catholique de Louvain, that moved to Louvain-la-Neuve in Wallonia.
