The Flemish Organization Registry (FOR) is a database containing unique entries for organizations relevant to the Flemish Science, Technology, Innovation and Economy (STIE) landscape, integrated in an international framework. It aims to facilitate links between disperse datasets by enriching its own generated data with publicly available data from the Research Organization Registry (ROR), the Kruispuntbank van Ondernemingen (KBO), Wikidata, CORDIS and others.
The database is developed and maintained by ECOOM-Antwerpen. It extends the full international ROR database with relevant Flemish organizations. At the moment, a data collection and consolidation process is taking place. The list of organizations will, in a next phase, be enriched with external identifiers and address data, while also focusing on the creation of lists to map particular subsets. As the data model of FOR is compatible with the one of the Research Organization Registry, integration of additional Flemish organizations into (an) international database(s) will be enabled.
The instrument is set for public release in 2026, providing an enriched list of unique actors to facilitate processes by diverse actors in the broad Flemish education and research sphere, as well as government entities. Apart from a consultable interface, FOR will be available as open data, allowing both public downloads and the set up of an API-service.
